Our 24-7 team is trained in the Dementia Connection Model®, backed by Johns Hopkins University Press and developed by our very own VP of Clinical Dementia Care, Dr. Jennifer Stelter. This evidenced-based, personal approach uses the five senses to reduce anxiety and fear, boost mood, and increase calm and productive behaviors and engagement prior to the use of medications. This model of care has proven to increase independence for the person and deepen the connection between them and their caregivers and family members.

The Dementia Connection Model is endorsed by Johns Hopkins University and recognized for its groundbreaking use of the five senses to help residents feel safe, supported, and emotionally regulated, without relying on medication as a first step.

Instead of immediately turning to pharmaceutical interventions, we focus on sensory therapies like aromatherapy, music, light, color, and texture to gently reduce anxiety and agitation while enhancing joy and engagement.

This approach is embedded into our training, our culture, and our day-to-day interactions with residents. Every care partner at Rosewater is trained in the Dementia Connection Model to ensure consistency, trust, and a deeply respectful experience for every resident.
